Is this a course

No.  We do not run formal courses we prefer to let you enjoy all  the pleasures of sailing without the pressure or responsibility of being 'in charge'.

In 2016 we sailed 205 miles, visited 4 spectacular anchorages, enjoyed a BBQ and swim in Haversand, tied alongside in 2 tiny fishing villages and watched the sun balance on the horizon at midnight

The Lofoten Islands have long been considered the most scenic holiday destination in Norway, especially by the locals.  Steep mountains are lined by golden beaches and emerald green seas, with old fashioned fishing villages nestling in between.  There are many wild and beautiful anchorages and pretty harbours for us to explore.  It is a mere 50 miles from Bodo on the mainland shore to these beautiful islands.

Where you go on your trip will be totally dependent on the weather.  We aim to keep you and the boat safe at all times.  In 2016 every trip was different.  We visited a total of 29 places over 5 trips, 10 of which were new to us and many from previous years did not fit in with the weather.  We know the area really well, and whatever the weather we guarantee that we will chose the best places to go to make your sailing holiday unique, memorable and enjoyable.

We will spend the days sailing amongst the spectacular scenery and the evenings on board or exploring ashore.  Relax and let us look after you

Travel and Kit Info

There are literally hundreds of places to visit in this cruising area.  Each week the itinerary is decided by the skipper to suit the weather.  To give you a flavour, this itinerary is based on what we did in a previous year.  You can read about last years trip on my blog here

Day 1 – Arrive on board 1800.  Welcome receptions, introductions and itinerary discussion.  Dinner served on board at 2000.

Day 2 – Breakfast followed by safety briefing.  A short sail on the first day as we head in amongst the rocks and islands to the stunning anchorage at Vettoya.  Watch out for sea eagles on the way. (25nm)

Day 3 – A long sail today as we sail north west from Bodo, across the Norwegian sea to the fishing village of Reine in the Lofoten Islands. Walk up to the lake above the harbour and take photographs before enjoying a beer in the friendly local Rorbuer pub (50nm).

Day 4 – Sail along the coastline admiring the stunning scenery and majestic mountains to arrive at Henningsvaer, described as the Venice of Norway. Spend the evening swimming, jogging or walking ashore (30nm)

Day 5 -  Sail amongst the islands and skerries on the way up to our favourite anchorage in Haversand.  Take the dinghy ashore and walk along the causeway at low water to the outlying islands.  BBQ with freshly caught cod! (25nm)

Day 6 – Sail through the narrow gap between Lille and Store Molle as we head up to the dramatic Trollfjord, where 900 m cliffs overlook a passage a mere 100 m wide.  Look at the birds nesting in the cliff walls as we get right up close.  Motor a short distance from Trollfjord to Digermulen and watch sea eagles on the way.  After dinner the fit and enthusiastic may want to climb to the top of Keiservarden and take photos of the sun hovering tantalisingly above the horizon at midnight but never setting (30nm)

Day 7 – A second long sail east across the Vestfjord to the mainland side and the spectacular wild anchorage between the rocks of Grindvik. Look out for sea eagles nesting on the hill (45nm)

Day 8 – Depart Grindvik and head south to Landegode.  Anchor amongst the skerries and golden sandy beaches and have a last walk ashore amongst the butterflies before heading back to Bodo late afternoon (35nm)

Day 9 - Breakfast, depart

This is an example itinerary of what we did in a previous year on an adventure sailing holiday aboard Velvet Lady in the Lofoten islands.  Velvet Lady is an Oyster 55 skippered yacht.  All our sailing holidays are weather dependent and the exact itinerary will be decided by the skipper to suit the weather conditions.  Beginners are welcome on these trips and on all our trips it is possible to book a slot and become part of a group.  To see other itineraries for skippered charters in the Lofoten islands please see our schedule

This trip is rated on the difficulty scale as an A, Day sailing in daylight hours only. This trip is suitable for all sailors.  No previous experience is required
