Lofoten Islands and more - 11 night Sailing Holiday 2

Start your holiday from Stokmarknes in Vesteralen, the island group north of the Lofoten Islands.  This will give us more time to explore  two different groups of islands, the fabulous Lofoten and lesser known Vesteralen islands.  We round off the trip with a 50 mile blast - sailing across open water to Bodo

Lofoten and Vesteralen Island Sailing Holiday Highlights

• 10 days sailing in the spectacular fjords and islands of Norway.
• Sail approx 25 miles per day amongst stunning scenery, with 24 hour daylight we have plenty of time to make harbour.
• 1 long crossing from Lofoten Islands to Bodo at the end of the trip (40 – 50 miles)
• Relax in the late evenings either with a drink on board or in a local bar ashore.
• Stroll along spectacular white sandy beaches, or climb steep hills for superb views.
• Try your hand at fishing.
• Anchor in a secluded bay.
• Barbeque on board.
• We expect to sail approx 230 nm during this trip

Is this a course

No.  We do not run formal courses we prefer to let you enjoy all  the pleasures of sailing without the pressures of 'being in charge'  We will spend the days sailing amongst the spectacular scenery and the evenings on board or exploring ashore.  Relax and let us look after you

The Lofoten Islands have long been considered the most scenic holiday destination in Norway, especially by the locals. Steep mountains are lined by golden sandy beaches and emerald green seas, with small fishing villages nestling in between. There are many wild and beautiful anchorages and pretty harbours for us to explore

North of the Lofoten Islands is yet another but lesser known island group, Vesteralen.  The landscape in these islands is varied: From rugged terrain with craggy peaks to expansive, cultivated shoreline areas with relatively dense populations. This is the land of fjords and sounds, skerries, rivers and lakes, moors, valleys and stretches of flat plains. This gives us plenty more to explore.

In 2016 we enjoyed fantastic weather with temperatures in the high 20's.  Plenty of opportunity for swimming and fishing as well. Why not join us for more fabulous sailing and wildlife spotting all in 24 hour daylight.

We will start in Stokmarknes, situated on the island of Hadseloya in Vesteralen.  There are many ways to get to/from Stokmarknes the shortest and easiest being an extra 35 minute flight from Bodo.  You can also arrive in Stokmarknes by road (using a series of bridges and ferries from Bodo) or again taking the Hurtigruten coastal steamer.  Getting there

Bodo is very easy to get to from many UK airports with flights via Oslo.  If you want to extend your holiday you could also take a trip north on the train or the Hurtigruten coastal steamer. Getting there

This is a sailing holiday with the opportunity to explore ashore in the fabulous Lofoten and Vesteralen Islands.  Exactly where you go on your trip will be totally dependent on the weather. Last year every trip was different.  We visited a total of 29 places over 5 trips, 10 of which were new to us and many from previous years did not fit in with the weather.  We pride ourselves on knowing the area really well, and whatever the weather we guarantee that we will chose the best places to go to make your sailing holiday unique, memorable and enjoyable.

Only one word to describe this trip 'WOW'  Another truly memorable experience.  Thank you

A master class in cruising in an incredible environment. One of the most outstanding adventures we have ever had

What a great trip.  Super safe sailing, stunning scenery, fantastic food and great hosts.

Wonderful weather, wonderful hosts.  Perfect time.  Many thanks Lin and Richard for taking us to super places.

Wonderful trip with a great group of people.

There are literarily hundreds of places to visit in this cruising area. The actual itinerary will be decided each week, to make the best use of the weather and to visit and explore as many places as possible. We will mix anchoring in wild scenic fjords with mooring in tiny fishing villages. To give you some idea of what we may achieve here is an example itinerary from a previous year.   You can read all about last years trip in the blog

Day 1 – Arrive on board at 1800 in Stokmarknes. Welcome reception, introductions and itinerary discussion. Dinner served on board at 2000.

Day 2 – Breakfast followed by safety briefing. Day sail amongst the rocks and skerries of Vesteralen and on to the fabulous wilderness anchorage at Nordvag. (20nm)

Day 3 – After a peaceful night anchored in Nordvag, explore the islands and visit the fishing harbour in Blokken. (30nm)

Day 4 – From Blokken sail south and anchor at the tiny Island of Brottoya at the head of Raftsund.  This is a great place for the late afternoon sun and a BBQ (25nm)

Day 5 – Work out the tides and motor through the narrow sound to the even narrower Trollfjord.  Anchor for late afternoon tea.  After tea, sail further south to Digermulen where there is a great hill to climb (25nm)

Day 6 - Sail amongst the islands on the south coast of the Lofoten islands and on to Haversand, our favourite anchorage, for a late afternoon swim on the beach.. (15nm)

Day 7 – Sail south and west from Haversand, along spectacular coastline towards Henningsvaer, a beautiful bustling town. (25nm).  Last year we drifted for a couple of hours and caught plenty of fish for tea!

Day 8  – From Henningsvaer we sail further west to Steine, where we anchor for lunch and a swim before continuing to Ballstad for the night. (25nm)

Day 9 – Sail along the coastline and have a lunchtime stop at the tiny museum town of Nusfjord.  Continue late afternoon to the stunningly beautiful town of Reine. (25nm)

Day 10 – A long days sail across the Vestfjord from Reine to the spectacular scenic anchorage at Vettoya.  Here the white sandy beaches and clear water just invite you to go swimming. (40nm)

Day 11 – Sail south from Vettoya to Landegode, lunch on the BBQ at anchor and a stroll ashore before continuing to Bodo for the evening (26nm)

Day 12 - Breakfast, depart

This is an example itinerary of what we did last year on an adventure sailing holiday aboard Velvet Lady in the Lofoten Islands. Velvet Lady is an Oyster 55 skippered yacht. All our sailing holidays are weather dependent and the exact itinerary will be decided by the skipper to suit the weather conditions. Beginners are welcome on these trips and on all our trips it is possible to book a slot and become part of a group. To see other itineraries for skippered charters in the Lofoten Islands please see our schedule.
