Explore Ireland and the Hebrides - milebuilding Dublin to Oban

£995.00

Gain miles and 60 mile passages for your log book as we take this opportunity to Explore Ireland and the Hebrides.   The Isle of Man, Islay, Mull and even Iona are all places we could visit on this milebuilding passage from Dublin to Oban.

This is the perfect opportunity to put recently learnt RYA theory into practice and see how to choose the most practical route for the wind and the tide.  On this milebuilding trip from Dublin to Oban we will be able to coach you in course shaping and plotting, tides (including secondary port calculations), passage planning and passage making, how to interpret weather forecasts and real time application of collision regulations.

Our milebuilding trips are all about enjoying sailing and the beauty of being at sea without the pressure of being on a course.  We are not working to a syllabus but planning the tides and deciding the course based on the conditions around us.  This trip is a great step up for Day Skippers and a perfect opportunity for the more experienced sailor to develop the skills required for the RYA Yachtmaster Coastal or Offshore

You will gain miles for your log book and experience taking part in a watch system.  There will be lots of night sailing and at least one passage of over 60 miles

Join in Dunlaoghaire Marina at 1800 on Saturday 23rd May and depart in Oban at 1000 on Sunday 31st May giving you all day to travel home.

A great trip - my second with Lin and Richard.  We had it all 30 knot winds, dead calm, dolphins and so much fun in completely the right atmosphere of safety and enjoyment.  Thanks for a truly great sailing trip, I've learnt so much under your guidance and help

This is a sample itinerary only – The actual itinerary will be weather dependant.  Read about last years trip on our blog

Day 1 – Arrive on board 1800.  Welcome reception, introductions and itinerary discussion. Dinner is served on board at 2000

Day 2 – Breakfast followed by safety briefing.  Spend the afternoon doing skills and drills to learn about the boat before sailing across Dublin bay to Howth for the night

Day 3 – Up early today for a long sail across to Peel in the Isle of Man

Day 4 – From Peel work out the tides and set off north, sailing overnight through the north channel and towards the Mull of Kintyre.

Day 5 – Use the last of the tide to sail north from the Mull of Kintyre to Port Ellen on Islay.  Take the opportunity to head off to visit a distillery this afternoon.

Day 6 – Work the tides and scoot north through the sound of Islay and onwards towards the tiny anchorage at Tinker hole

Day 7 – Navigate through the sound of Iona and around the west coast of Mull to Toberrmory – the most colourful harbour in the Sound of Mull
