Atlantic Portugal - Vilamoura to Lisbon

We're in the Algarve which is famous for its beaches and golf courses but pretty good for sailing too! Spend a few days sailing along the Algarve coast before heading around Cap st Vincent and into the Atlantic on passage towards Lisbon. This is a great introduction to night sailing for beginners, and good practice early in the season for budding yachtmasters,

We will be moored in Vilamoura Marina at the start of the trip, only 20 mins from Faro airport so it is really easy to get to us as Faro has many daily flight arrivals from the UK

Join on board between 12 noon and 1800.  If you are early go off and find your own lunch, mid afternoon we will have tea and biscuits and at 1800 it is time to meet your fellow crew mates and discuss the trip.  Please do not be later than 1800.

We do not run courses but this trip is ideal to get hands on sailing and practice all the theory you may have learnt in a classroom over the winter!

We will finish the trip in Cascais marina - on the outskirts of Lisbon.

Our Sailing Holiday highlights include

  • Sailing in Atlantic Waters
  • Visit old historic Portuguese Ports
  • Spend peaceful nights at anchor enjoying the stars
  • Sail overnight and experience sunrise and sunset at sea
  • walk on the beaches in the Algarve
  • Just relax on board and enjoy the sailing wherever we go

If the weather was perfect, this is what we would be able to do!  We will adapt the itinerary to suit what is possible with the weather that we get at the time.

Day 1 – Arrive on board 1800.  Welcome reception, introductions and itinerary discussion. Dinner served on board at 2000.

Day 2 – Breakfast, safety briefing. Learn about the boat and where things are kept – short day sail down the coast and anchor in the lee of Culatra Island.

Day 3 – Spread our wings a bit further and sail 30 miles along the coast to Portimao.

Day 4 – Take the dinghy ashore in the morning to visit the old town and then sail across to Lagos in the afternoon.

Day 5– Sail along the dramatic shoreline towards Cap St Vincent and then head out into the Atlantic on passage north to Sines.

Day 6 - Arrive in Sines in the early hours of the morning - explore ashore in the afternoon.

Day 7 – Sail the final leg to Cascais marina - this could take us late into the night or even tomorrow morning.

Day 8 – Arrive in Cascais in the early hours, have a lazy morning and explore Lisbon in the afternoon.

Day 9 – Breakfast, Depart 1000

This is an example itinerary for a sailing holiday aboard Velvet Lady.  Velvet Lady is an Oyster 55 skippered yacht and all our trips are great for hands on sailing no matter what your experience.  We have to be practical so all our sailing holidays are weather dependent and the exact itinerary will be decided by the skipper to suit the weather conditions. On all our trips it is possible to book an individual berth and become part of a group. To see our other opportunities please see our schedule

AAA  Primarily day sailing, but one day of the trip will include being at sea for up to 36 hours.
There will be a mix of short and long days – upwind and downwind sailing.  Although mainly coastal there will be some offshore sailing.  We will stop most evenings although sometimes we will eat dinner on our knee in the cockpit underway.  If the weather is bad we can change the itinerary and stay in port.
